Valtrex (Valacyclovir) is an anti-viral drug containing the active ingredient valaciclovir and is used to treat genital herpes, shingles and cold sores. It helps to slow down the spread of the symptoms, giving your bodies natural defenses a chance to fight off the infection. Valtrex medication is available in 500 mg and 1000 mg or 1 gm tablets, It slows the growth and spread of the herpes virus so that the body can fight off the infection.

The drugs that may interact with Valacyclovir?
- Probenecid (Benemid) and cimetidine (Tagamet, Tagamet HB) may increase the effects of Valacyclovir and possibly lead to dangerous side effects. You may need a dosage adjustment or special monitoring during treatment if you are taking probenecid or cimetidine.
