Generic Nexium is prescribed to treat the symptoms of acid reflux disease, which typically include persistent heartburn on 2 or more days per week, despite treatment and change of diet. For many people, It is also prescribed to heal damage to the esophagus called erosive esophagitis. This damage may be caused over time from stomach acid wearing away the lining of the esophagus. Only a doctor can diagnose this condition. With Generic Nexium Esomeprazole, most erosion heals in 4 to 8 weeks.

Generic Nexium is supplied as delayed-release capsules for oral administration or in packets for preparation of delayed-release oral suspensions. The recommended dosages are outlined in the table below. Esomeprazole Nexium should be taken at least one hour before meals. The duration of proton pump inhibitor administration should be based on available safety and efficacy data specific to the defined indication and dosing frequency, as described in the Prescribing Information, and individual patient medical needs. Proton pump inhibitor treatment should only be initiated and continued if the benefits outweigh the risks of treatment. Treating heartburn or esophagitis (inflammation of the food pipe) due to acid reflux disease (GERD). It may be used to prevent stomach ulcers associated with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It may also be used with other generic medicines to prevent ulcers of the small intestines. Nexium is an acid pump inhibitor (or proton pump inhibitor). It works by turning off some of the acid pumps in the stomach lining and reducing the amount of acid backing up into the esophagus (food pipe).

Nexium - Esomeprazole and GERD

Take Nexium Esomeprazole Generic on an empty stomach at least 1 hour before eating. Swallow Nexium whole. Do not break, crush, or chew before swallowing. If you have difficulty swallowing the capsule, you may add 1 tablespoon of applesauce to an empty bowl. Open the capsule and empty the pellets onto the applesauce. Mix the pellets with the applesauce and swallow the mixture immediately. The applesauce used should not be hot and should be soft enough to be swallowed without chewing. Do not chew or crush the pellets. Do not store the mixture for future use. Antacids may be taken while using Esomeprazole Nexium. If you miss a dose of Generic Nexium , take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.
